Bringing high quality,
Australian garnet
to the world.

Garnet is the name applied to a group of complex minerals with similar physical properties but variable colour, hardness and chemical composition. The main members of this group are Almandine, Grossular, Pyrope, Spessartine, Andradite and Uvarovite. Almandine is one of the two main varieties of commercial significance because of its hardness and durability.

Australian almandine garnet is a niche commodity that has eco-friendly usage in industrialisation, particularly in the energy, infrastructure and resource sectors. Its widespread use in maintaining assets such as oil rigs, mining process plants and infrastructure in those sectors provides strong growth in this market.

Garnet is the preferred abrasive due to its hardness and recyclable capability and environmentally friendly capabilities. Garnet sand is a known media for water-jet cutting applications for cutting steel, non-ferrous metals, granite and marble but also rubber and glass. It is also used in sandblasting of metals and in construction projects.

Growth in demand for garnet is growing as the energy and resource sectors switch from silica to improve employee health and safety.

Garnet’s most important properties are its inertness, hardness and resistance to degradation.

Major uses are as an abrasive and filtration medium such as water-jet cutting, coasted abrasives, sandblasting and polishing. Industry experts agree that industrial garnet is the most effective surface blasting material..

High Productivity

More cost effective blasting over other abrasives as a result of:

  • Longevity of sharpness.

  • Hardness and durability.

  • High density → high momentum (4.1 times heavier than water)

  • Low consumption → unique octagonal grain size enables more active grains to impact the surface.

Health & Safety

  • Doesn’t harm people (no silicosis) or the environment (does not leach or react with water)

  • Low dusting -significantly lower dust emissions due to its inherent material toughness and rapid settling (high specific gravity). This ensures minimum disruption and danger to adjoining operations and improves operator visibility and safety.

  • Suitable for multiple usages and can be recycled up to five times without losing its superior cutting ability.

Superior Surface Quality

  • Grains clean deep into the cavities and pitted areas down to the bare metal, thoroughly removing all rust, soluble salts and other contaminants.

  • Minor uses include skid-resistant paints and surfaces and as filler materials in high-density concrete where chemical inertness is required, such as marine environments
